Doggy Park

Taking Duke to the doggy park is probably one of my favorite things to do here so far! I love how excited he gets once he knows we are there, he pretty much drags us to the gate. It is so fun to watch him explore, play with other dogs, and just watch him interact with other people.
It is also the one place that he does not care how hot it is outside, he just plays!

On our way to the park!

Duke now loves to stick his head out the window, but we have to hold onto him because I am pretty sure he would jump out!

1st thing Duke does as soon as we take his leash off is run to the water bowls. Before he can play he has to take a drink from every bowl and there are usually at least 5 right by the water fountain. And he does this of course because the water in one bowl might taste completely different from the others. Such a goof ball!

This is one of the obstacles they have at the park for the dogs to play on. When we first started coming we had to lift Duke up onto it, but now he can jump up himself as long as he starts from where he and Joey are standing. Every once in awhile though he will try to jump up from the side and he doesn't make it and falls back. Funny to watch because he thinks he is such a big boy and you can see his confidence go down after his tumble. The other day he had his 1st boo boo, he bit his tongue all the way thru and was bleeding for awhile. 1st accident at the doggy park!

We love our Dukey Duke!

My Rock

Everyday I fall more and more in love with Joey! But I am not going to lie I have had a very hard time adjusting to this very different lifestyle we are now living. I was so excited to start this adventure that the last thing I expected was for me to have as difficult as a time as I am having. We are about 1500 miles away from WI, still in the U.S. but I sometimes feel like I am living in a foreign country. Everything seems so different to me from what I am used to. But the one thing that stays constant in my life is Joey. We have always been surrounded by family, which is awesome and what I miss the most for sure, but the one thing I am learning is that Joey is MY FAMILY. Sure I miss our parents and family tons, but home is where Joey is! No matter how tough this transition is for me, there is no place I would rather be then with Joey! He is my family, my life. The one thing that I am learning is that sure we are away from our families and friends, but now Joey and I can concentrate on us and making us a family! We are each other rocks and he has definitely been mine through this major transition, he has been so patient and I am so thankful for him, not sure how I got so lucky. But everyday I thank God for bringing him into my life and everyday I fall more and more in love with him! Thank you Joey for everything!
Best day of my life, because I married my best friend! I can't imagine life without you!

What do I do????

So I am sure that some of you wonder what I do during my days when Joey is at work? Well believe it or not I actually have kept very busy so far. Duke definitely keeps me very busy with all of his energy! Here are some of the things I have been doing to keep me busy until it is time to pick Joey up from work!
  • My favorite is definitely taking Duke to the doggy park! Very fun for him and it tires him out!!
  • Make lots of phone calls--taking care of business
  • Take Duke for walks
  • Lots of unwanted visits to the dentist because I cracked my tooth & had to get a root canal--terrible
  • organize the apartment--clean apartment
  • drop & pick Joey up
  • Duke and I meet Joey for Lunch
  • At about 3pm a couple times a week, our neighbors who have 2 small kids, their 2 years old knocks on our door to see if Duke can play! So Duke chases him around the complex while I get to talk to someone! We plan to hang out sometime without the kids and dogs! But I really enjoy this time with them! My first new friends in TX.
  • Sometimes I go to the pool and lay out, swim, & read in the pool
  • I also try to go and work out

So those are some of the things that I do to keep myself busy! I have applied for a few jobs and hope to get a sub job so I have a flexible schedule for when our parents come to visit!

Duke playing at the doggy park! Couldn't figure out how to get in but once we put him in there he loved it and goes in here a lot! Goofy dog!

And this is why I take him to the doggy park & on walks because he sleeps after for a long time and I can get lots of stuff done!

Riverwalk

So this weekend, Joey and I ventured out to experience the very talked about Riverwalk in Downtown San Antonio. And it was AWESOME!! Hard to put into words but one of the coolest things we have ever seen!
The Riverwalk is a system of canals with bars, restaurants, and shops surrounding it. You literally walk right next to the water! I could definitely see falling in because some of the walk ways are very narrow! They also have boat rides that you can take down the canal that with a guide to tell you all sorts of facts about this awesome place! We did not do this but plan to very soon!
After walking around a little, we were both very hungry and decided to stop at a authentic Mexican Restaurant for chips & salsa, margaritas (we each had a Texas Longhorn Margarita--very yummy), and an appetizer that we shared! It was very cool, we sat out on the patio where we ate, drank, and people watched!

This is something that we can't wait to do again! Very excited to experience the Riverwalk during the daytime!

Also, we can't wait to share this awesome place with our parents when they come to visit!

P.S. Mom & Dad there is a Howl at the Moon on the Riverwalk, so get ready!

Hopefully we will be able to take Joey's parents there too!

First full week completed

First day of work picture

Well Joey officially has finished a full 1st week of work at Fort Sam Houston! I would say for the most part if was a very good week for him! He did not do much, but like he said hey if they want to pay me for doing nothing I'll take it!
Basically, he is helping out other soldiers who are in training right now until his training starts in July! The worst part of his day was being out in the field in 100 plus degree heat! This week though it sounds like he will be in the office instead of being out in the field, which he said he would rather be out in the field! So hopefully his 2nd week goes just as well even if he is in the office!

Little play time before Dad leaves for work!

Cacti

We now live where you can find CACTI growing wild everywhere!

Fun place to walk

So where our apartment is located, there is really no place to walk Duke besides for around our complex. So as we were driving around one day we saw this park that was for hiking! So we went home, got Duke, and went to explore! Well we fell in love with it and now we take Duke there almost daily, mostly at night to help calm him down for the night! The path that we take is pretty short but because it is so hot it tires Duke out, which we love! Pretty soon we will venture on to take one of the longer trails now that Duke is starting to get used to the weather!
